Degrees The Knights of Columbus have
established four separate measurements, or degrees, to recognize a member
Knight’s level of achievement. These levels must be earned in order, with
full Knighthood being achieved after the Third Degree. Each of the local
Councils has its own First Degree Team, which conducts its initiation
ceremonies throughout the fraternal year. A district-wide Second Degree Team
exists to provide opportunities for advancement at the local level. A regional Third Degree
Team conducts its ceremonial presentations throughout Eastern Pennsylvania. First Degree Council 8726 at St.
Ignatius Church will host a First Degree on Monday, March 8, 2010 in the
meeting rooms at the school. Candidates are asked to arrive by 7:00pm with
the degree beginning at 7:30pm. Second Degree There are two Second
Degrees scheduled during the next quarter. The first one will be held on
Tuesday, March 9, 2010. The second will be held on Tuesday, April 13, 2010.
Both will be held at Knight’s Home at Spring and Weiser Streets, Reading. PA. Third Degree A Third Degree has been
scheduled for Sunday, April 18, 2010 at LaSalle Academy in Shillington, PA. Fourth Degree A separate level, the
Fourth Degree, also known as the Patriotic Degree, provides additional
opportunities for member Knights, including optional membership in the Color
Corp, the Order’s publicly recognized, formal honor guard shown below. The next
Fourth Degree Exemplification is scheduled for Sunday, May 30, 2010. Contact
your local Grand Knight for additional information about this event as it is
restricted only to Third Degree candidates and existing members of the Fourth
Degree.
